THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA - Part II
2023
Our research about the Impact of Social Media continues...
Last year, we dealt with the effects that the increasing flood of information in social media can have on people and their relationships.
We are now taking the movement material created in this process out of the typical theater space and are bringing it closer to people in a variety of ways at different locations.
In this way, we would like to enter into direct contact and exchange with the audience, sometimes even letting them become part of the artwork, in order to sensitize them to the subject matter and also to contemporary dance as an art form.
In the next three months we will test different performance formats and locations and invite you to participate in the different performances.

"Take one step mindfully", "Dance free", "How does silence feel?". ...HERE! is a counter-proposal to our existence in the middle of the media world. In an interactive dance installation, the audience is invited to pause in the here and now and, with time and all their senses, to immerse themselves in looking, experiencing and reflecting alongside the performers. Embedded in the atmosphere of Volker Kreidler's photography exhibition at the CLB Gallery in Berlin, 3 dancers of the company perform a fixed choreography between different "experience stations". At a certain point, the spectators themselves become part of the dance installation and are allowed to enter the performance space and test out the stations alongside the dancers. In the process, they experience, for example, the collective movement in a "movement snake", and they are allowed to have a close-up photograph taken of a detail of their own body/posture/expression, which is projected live into the space. They can also observe the artistic creative process of a visual artist or simply immerse themselves in a moment of silence under the protection of silent headphones, trace a thought or let the choreography of the space take its effect on them. In their installation, Company STEVE removes the boundaries between performance and audience space and integrates the individual decisions of their audience into their choreographic work. |

Company STEVE is sharing parts of their movement research about how the consumption of social media can influence our actions, our state of being and our relationships. In the creative process the Company included results from a public survey as well as their own beliefs and observations. The movement sequences developed reflect and embody social media as a strong force very much present in our society. The play with different speeds and how our brain and body is processing the increasing flood of information plays a major role. In the open rehearsal, the work processes are made transparent and the participants are invited to self-reflection and exchange with others. |

In the event of a Finissage Performance Verena Steffen and Sinja Völl from Company STEVE will translate the images of the artist Vanko Zhou and their themes into a short contemporary dance piece. In partly improvisational, partly synchronously choreographed sequences, an interesting interplay between the exhibited images and the moving bodies in space is created.

Support for Company STEVE! One might think that the year 2020 is not the best year to found a contemporary dance company. Nevertheless, we have done so and, especially in these times, we would like to look ahead optimistically and, above all, continue to challenge our body and creative spirit! Therefore we are trying everything to be able to realise our projects despite the circumstances and simply continue working. At this point we would like to ask you for your support. Donate the amount for 1, 2 or 3 tickets not bought in the last months or a foundation grant of your choice for our COMPANY. We are grateful for everyone who participates! |

Dance little Sparrow
2019/2020
DANCE LITTLE SPARROW - Rebellious - sensitive - looking for meaning! Thus, the 50s of post-war Germany are pictured.
A Modern Dancetheater Piece developed together with Luisa Winterfeld.
After the death of her grandfather, Klaus Raschen, choreographer Verena Steffen found his autobiography, a compilation of numerous diary entries. Deeply impressed by the intensity of the texts, she and the choreographer Luisa Winterfeld decided to choreograph a dance and drama piece to portray her grandfathers story.
The scenes spiral into each other like bird swarms in the sky, building constant new formations with characters meeting again and again as if by chance. Sometimes bold and determined, sometimes torn by self-doubt, the characters try to master the upheavals of the post-war era.
The biography with excerpts of the original journal form the structure of the piece and allow the audience a direct way into the theme, forcing it to actively look into and learn from the past.
(Duration: about 65min)
Premiere: 16. 17. 18. May 2019, Theaterforum Kreuzberg Berlin
Guest Performances: DANCEWORKS Berlin, ACUD Theatre Berlin (pushed due to the pandemic), forum2 Theater Munich, Gymnasium Ottobrunn Auditorium Munich, Theaterhalle Am Dom Würzburg (pushed due to the pandemic)
DANCE LITTLE SPARROW has been shown in different theaters as well as in schools as part of the curriculum.
If you are interested in showing DANCE LITTLE SPARROW in your theatre/festival/school please CONTACT us for more informations.
